I had so wanted to finish this book before review time, but I'm still in the middle of this one -- not because it's tough to read, but because it's so fun! Any of you who know us know our life has been just a bit crazy lately, and this is not a book I wanted to skim through. Bonnie Calhoun's debut book is a terrifically fun cozy mystery that has a cast of characters that I wish I could meet in person (well, most of them!).
From chapter one you'll fall in love with Sloane Templeton, a woman whose life has been pulled in all directions lately by the death of her mother, disastrous relationships with all the wrong men, inheritance of a bookstore complete with it's on hilarious cast of characters, and now cyber death threats. If she didn't have a quirky sense of humor, a cast iron stomach, a caring sense about people, and a background in hunting down computer criminals she just might not make it.
Calhoun has an amazing talent for pulling together an array of characters and sub-plots in a whirlwind of activity yet allowing the reader to keep it all straight and in logical order.
I'm loving the laughs and suspense in the book so far and I can't wait to see how Sloane manages to keep the bookstore (please tell me she does), finds love (???), and gets a great meal from Aunt Verlene (ok, maybe that's pushing it). I hope this is just the first in a huge shelf full of books from Bonnie Calhoun!
