Placebo

Placebo
by
Steven James

MY THOUGHTS:
This is definitely an edge of your seat book! The story revolves around Jevin Banks, an escape artist who is now filming so-called supernatural events in an effort to publicly debunk them. In this first book of a new series, Banks finds the practice of mind-to-mind communications not so much of a hoax and he accidentally gets sucked into a couple of deadly scenarios that could impact the future of warfare.

Steven James has done an incredible amount of research into actual studies and includes just enough science to whet your appetite and not overwhelm a non-scientific mind. I love the way he wrapped escape artist tricks into real life situations (well, real life for the characters), and I'll never forget how to get out of a room where I've been blocked in because someone crammed a door or table under the doorknob!

As is the case in many suspense books, there were a few 'coincidental' events that made me step out of the story for a moment and question the reality of the situation, but overall I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down.
