My Thoughts:

I enjoy Amish Fiction. Although it has a tendency to be somewhat predictable, I can depend on it to help me see the simpler side of life.

Tricia Goyers' book is a refreshing take on the typical Amish 'formula'.
The story revolves around Marianna Sommer, who was born a bit early as the result of a tragic buggy accident which took the lives of her two older sisters. Since her name was derived from their names, she has always felt that her existence was a reminder of the tragedy and that she needed to somehow replace both of them within her family.

When her father decides to move the family to a much smaller Amish community in Montana, she finds herself far from the comfort of a tight-knit religious group and instead part of a well integrated group of Amish and Englischers. Instead of being the enemies, these Englisch seem to be friends and work together with the Amish. What's more, they have a strength of faith and joy that Marianna had never know was possible.

While this book has romance, that is not it's primary purpose. Tricia has captured the struggle within each of us to fully understand life, love, and a true relationship with God. And as is her way, she left me chewing my fingernails waiting for the next book in the series!

I have always loved Tricia's books, and this one proves why. The depth of her characters, the realism of their struggles, and her ability to link to the heartstrings of her readers is a true gift.

Don't just take my word for it -- see what other bloggers are saying about Beside Still Waters. Check out other reviews here.
