January 26: Exodus 28 – 29
God
knew what was going on down in the camp either at this time or soon (don’t want
to give a spoiler alert, but remember the golden calf?), yet he still calls
Aaron and his sons to be the priests. And he knows how some of Aaron’s sons
will mess up, yet he still calls them to serve.
Did
you note verse 28:38? Aaron, as high priest, would symbolically bear the blame
and the punishment for failure to obey the laws of the rituals and sacrifices!
Remember, Jesus is our high priest as he is identified multiple times in the
book of Hebrews, and he ACTUALLY bore the blame for all time.
The
ordination process was quite intense – it was to last for seven days and each
day three animals would be killed and offered to God. On the first day it was
to be a bull and two rams, and there after it was to be a bull and two lambs.
These included a sin offering for atonement, a burnt offering, and a wave
offering. In addition, a grain offering was included.
Go
back and reread the last verse of today’s text – Exodus 29:46. This explains
why God brought the Israelites out of Egypt! Incredible.

TEXT: Exodus 30 – 32
